If you have any problems playing your streaming media files with DRM, you will want to read below. Digital Rights Management helps protect streaming audio and streaming video content. Some people may experience problems playing streaming content with DRM installed. Fixing the problem is usually very simple. The most common issues are corrupted and outdated software. Both are very common and easy to fix.

Make sure I.E. is set to allow the user of Active X Controls. Be sure Windows and Media Player have the latest updates applied. You can apply all updates and patches for free at Microsoft Updates. Step #1

Do you want a license to play your streaming media?

The first step is to play your audio or video streaming media. You can do this by clicking the video icon on your computer or by clicking on a link in a webpage. A small rectangular grey box will pop up and ask if you would like to install a license. You want to click "Yes". Click on the picture to the right to see what it looks like.

If you can not get to this point, you need to check the issues listed below.

  1. Firewall Settings - Turn off your firewall (standard on Windows XP with SP2) or configure it for the website your streaming media resides on. For our demo, configure your firewall for bummerhosting.com

    Windows XP w/SP2. - Microsoft has installed a firewall on the Service Pack 2 update and most people do not know about this. It has been causing a lot of problems with the installation of DRM. To configure the Windows Firewall, go to Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Security Center. Click on the Windows Firewall link and congiure it. If problems persist, disable it.

  2. Corrupted Windows Media Player - You need to use Windows Media Player and make sure it is not corrupted. You can download the latest of Microsoft's Windows Media Player for free.
  3. Pop up Blockers - Disable all pop up blockers on your computer. This is a very common problem.

Step #2

You need to enter your username and password.

The second step is to enter the username and password when requested. The website on which your streaming video or streaming audio resides will issue you a username and password. This allows you to download and install the DRM license on your computer enabling you to play your streaming media.

If you can not get to this point, you need to check the issues listed below.

Step #3

Install the Digital Rights Management license and play your streaming media files.

The third step is to download the license which takes less than a second. You'll then get a message saying that the DRM license was installed and to click on Play. You will not have to download the license again. It will be good for the amount of time or number of plays previously specified by the streaming media file author.
